Safeguarding at Holte School
Every pupil has the right to feel safe, valued and listened to. At Holte School, safeguarding is central to everyday school life. We work to protect children from harm and help them get the support they need to learn and thrive.
Safeguarding means protecting children from abuse, neglect and exploitation, supporting their wellbeing and taking action when they need help. This includes their lives in school, at home, online and in the wider community.
How we keep pupils safe
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Our staff are trained to recognise when a child may need help, listen carefully and report concerns promptly. Our safeguarding team decides what action is needed and checks that support is helping.
We get to know our pupils and their individual needs. We take concerns seriously, including bullying, harmful behaviour between pupils and online abuse. Through lessons, assemblies and pastoral support, pupils learn about healthy relationships, staying safe and where to turn for help.
Listening and working together
We want every pupil to know there is a trusted adult they can talk to. We listen to children’s views and involve them in decisions about their support, taking account of their age and understanding.
Parents and carers are important partners in keeping children safe. We welcome conversations about worries or changes at home or in school. Where appropriate, we work with families and other professionals to provide support early, before difficulties grow.
If you are worried about a child
During school hours, contact Holte School and ask to speak to the safeguarding team. Mr Oliver is our Designated Safeguarding Lead, the senior member of staff who leads this work. Miss Peterkin is our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Pupils can speak to any member of staff they trust. You do not need to be certain that something is wrong before sharing a concern.
