Physical Education
At Holte School we promote the importance of regular physical activity to all of our pupils. Within the PE department we offer a wide range of sporting opportunities to all of our pupils. The PE curriculum offers pupils the chance to develop physically, mentally and socially. Students learn to grow in confidence, learn to develop their leadership skills and learn the importance of leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
We aim to instil excellent safety practice in this highly practical subject and teach pupils to value professionalism in their approach to sport. Healthy lifestyles are promoted at all times, teaching pupils to respect themselves and each other. We deliver high quality Physical Education which inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport. We provide opportunities to compete in sport and other activities which build character and help embed values such as fairness and respect.
Pupils are encouraged not only to become competent performers but also develop their skills as leaders, officials and their ability to analyse performance. The activities pupils may participate in are listed below;

The Key Stage 3 and 4 CORE PE curriculum allows pupils the opportunity for pupils to experience the sports named above.
Facilities
Holte School has extensive PE facilities. There is a four badminton court sports hall consisting of indoor cricket nets and full sized basketball court, small sports hall, large hall, astro-turf and MUGA consisting of 4 netball courts. There is a 100 metre track with long jump facilities and 2 outdoor cricket nets.

Kit
All pupils are to wear the Holte School PE kit. Pupils can either wear the Holte School Polo, or Long Sleeve Holte top with either Holte School tracksuit bottoms or shorts. If pupils choose to wear the shorts then they must also wear blue football socks.
Pupils can choose to purchase either the Holte School fleece, or Holte School jumper to wear as an additional layer.
Pupils need to have suitable trainers to take part in physical activity.
Physical Education Examination Courses Key Stage 4
OCR Level 1 / 2 Cambridge National Certificate in Sport Studies (current Year 10 and 11)
Cambridge Nationals in Sport offer students the solid foundation required for further study or progression into industry. Students will develop a wide range of highly desirable, transferable skills such as communication, problem solving, team working and performing under pressure. Students will complete controlled assessment (60%) and a written exam (40%) to complete the course.

Physical Education Examination Courses Key Stage 5
Cambridge Technical in Sport and Physical Activity Level 3 (Sports Coaching) (Year 12 and 13)
This course will provide pupils the opportunity to pursue their interest in Sport. The course is a broad basis of study for the sport sector. This qualification is designed to support progression to higher education in Sport. The course is split into Units that are both mandatory and optional. Homework
Homework will always link directly to the work in lessons to help students progress. A variety of tasks will be set that include; taking part in extra-curricular activities to further their practical abilities, extension and completion of class activities, preparation for upcoming class activities, exam revision and keeping up to date with sport in the media.
Additional Reading
Within Physical Education we encourage pupils to watch as much sport as possible, to broaden their curriculum knowledge of a wide range of sports which is particularly helpful within examination courses.
