Initial Teacher Training at Holte School

Holte School has an outstanding reputation in Initial Teacher Training where 42% of teachers are either home-grown or have carried out their initial-teacher training at our school. Many of our former trainee teachers have become permanent members of Holte staff and thrived professionally ever since. They have contributed considerably to the outstanding status that Holte School has acquired for many years. They have also helped to drive up standards and transform the life opportunities for our pupils. Holte School has strong ITT partnerships with many reputable Teacher-Training Providers.

Since November 2012, Holte School has become a Leading School in the School Direct Programme for Initial Teacher Training. As an outstanding school, we have been able to secure many government funded School Direct places for the primary and secondary sectors. Holte School is currently the Leading School of an alliance of primary and secondary schools in order to help address the needs of their curriculum by recruiting high-class graduates via the School Direct Programme.

If you wish to have a career in teaching, you may consider the following options/routes to acquire the Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE):

  • the PGCE conventional teacher training course;
  • the School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT);
  • School Direct (salaried);
  • School Direct (paid by tuition fees).

School Direct (paid by tuition fees)

If you are a graduate with a good honours degree, you will be able to apply to the School Direct Training Programme (paid by tuition fees) and could be eligible for a big tax-free bursary of up to more than £20,000. This programme may also lead to employment within the school or network of schools once QTS/PGCE is awarded.

Holte School is the lead School in the School Direct Programme. We have a very strong partnership with Birmingham City University and our School Direct Trainees can acquire up to Level 7 qualification on top of their PGCE.
