Eco-Team News

The Holte Eco-Team continues to work really hard to educate pupils -and support initiatives- on sustainability themes, at a local, national and global scale. Over the last six years we have been involved in lots of projects, from paper recycling and clothing collections to leading assemblies and promoting reduced consumption. Staff have been encouraged to car share and pupils have been asked to switch off electrical items. We have even run an Eco-Technology day!

Holte School is proud to have been awarded Birmingham Sustainable School Status, the Eco-Schools Silver Award and the Costa Green Awareness Award in recognition of the work that has been done.

In the last two years we have put a real focus on ‘Our Local Environment’; working with different groups to improve our site as well as keeping the local area tidy by litter picking. We are proud to announce that the gardening work we have started around the HML site has recently been rewarded with the RHS School Gardeners Level 1 and Level 2 Awards. And, we’re not stopping there- we will further develop our

sensory gardens, wildlife habitats and herb gardens over the course of this year, so watch this space!

We will continue to work with our chosen charity: ‘School in a Bag’. A fantastic cause, promoting education in the poorest parts of the world. Visit www.schoolinabag.org if you want to know more!

Last year we raised enough money to pack and send school bags, full of equipment, to 51 children- adding to the 84 bags sent the previous two years. This year the bar is even higher…. so, support if you can!

If you would like to be more sustainable at home, why not try following these simple steps?!
