Safeguarding links with Birmingham MASH/Local Authority/other schools

  • In 2014-2015, both the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and the Deputy DSL took the opportunity to tour the new local Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub and meet the people involved there. Follwing on from this, the Deputy DSL spent a full day working in the MASH team to gain first-hand experience of the challenges faced there on a daily basis.
  • The DSL completes the Section 175 Safeguarding audit for the Local Authority on time each year. In 2014-2015, the Holte DSL was invited to be a part of a Local Authority-led steering group looking at the audit and how it could be improved for 2015-2016.
  • The DSL attends all local and city-wide safeguarding briefings run by the local authority where important information is disseminated. All of this information is then distributed to staff and governors via either our safeguarding bulletin or ‘safeguarding board’ meeting.
  • The Holte DSL has led safeguarding training in many other schools in which Holte has supported over recent years. These include: Blue Coat Academy, Croft Primary, Birchills Community Academy, Kings Hill Primary, and Lozells Primary. In addition to training, advice has been provided to fellow DSLs in these schools about systems and procedures they could usefully put in place.
  • The DSL has presented on safeguarding issues at numerous local conferences and has also presented at a national Optimus conference on ‘Maintaining Outstanding Safeguarding’.
